Christmas in Perth

Qantas flight QF6 departed Frankfurt on time at 2215 on Friday night, 30th November. We were on board, made the change to QF78 in Singapore and arrived in Perth at 0105 on Sunday, 2nd December. A journey lasting almost 20 hours. We took a taxi to Coode St. and climbed into bed in the granny flat at about 2 in the morning.

A good five hours sleep and we were up, Fran had been very thoughtful and provided the makings of a light breakfast. We had the use of a car that Rohan had at his place It was a Ford Cougar, a sporty hatch with very powerful motor and low profile tyres, a long shot from the placid little Hyundai we had in March. It belonged to Ryan, a basketball friend of Rohan’s.

Synergy Park in Kings Park with its models of pre historic animals.

Dinner at David and Janet’s.

Businessmen hurrying through the ages in The Terrace.

The Myattsfield Mansion.

Tea and cake with Her Ladyship, Mabel.

We took Emma and Daniel into town one morning, travelling in a train and bus to spend time at Forest Chase to see the interactive water fountain. Emma found the water fascinating and  once over her initial wariness, spent an hour or more playing in the water.

The fountain is the result of a design competition won by internationally renowned artist Jeppe Hein. His “walls of water” sculpture is at the Wellington Street end of Forest Chase. Consisting of nine “rooms”, each about four metres square, the “walls” alternate between 2 metres high, one metre high and then disappear, in random patterns. It was completed in November at a cost of $1.3 million and is a great addition to the city. On a day with the temperature above 30 degrees the fountain was a magnet for kids of all ages, some getting drenched but all having good simple fun.

We had many things to do in Perth with book keepers, accountants, dentists etc but still had plenty of opportunities to spend time with friends and family. We would like to thank all those people for their hospitality while were there.

Tuesday 8th January we departed Perth arriving back on board Matilda next day at about midday, local time.

The weather had its own welcome for us.

We have a few winter activities planned so there will be stories to tell. We'll keep in touch.
